1st birthday party activities should be fun for everyone and keep your little guests - and older guests busy and happy.

Birthday Party Activity Centers

Set up one or more activity centers.

  • soft stuffed animals
  • soft blocks
  • balls
  • soft shapes
  • coloring books and crayons
  • (supervised)

Get the other parents involved with their child and make it fun for everyone. This will keep the little ones active and interested.

    *A Tip From Grandma Mary

Activities are a wonderful way for children and parents to play and learn together.

So be sure and give your guests plenty of time to play with their child and to visit with the other adults as well.

Here are some other 1st birthday party activities that you can use.

  • Finger Painting
  • Play Dough
  • Shape Puzzles
  • Another great idea is to use multimedia.

    1st Birthday party Activity Multimedia

Show a video about your child's first year. With today's computer video programs you easy put together a fun program that everyone will enjoy. And when your child gets older, they'll enjoy seeing it too.

You can include video footage and still pictures as well - all mixed together with some appropriate music.

And when you have your child's video all edited you can mail your production off to family and friends who were unable to attend.

    Your Theme Music

You can pick up a music CD like this fun Boys First Birthday CD, or this cute Girls First Birthday CD filled with a wonderful selection of songs to play in the background when your playing party games, or at any time during your party. You could even have everyone sing along.

    Pass Around The Photo Album

It you haven't done so already, this is the perfect time to put your child's photo album together. Pass it around for your guests to look at and hear them say "my how your child has grown."

    Story Time

A quiet 1st birthday party activity.

Gather everyone around in a circle and read a short story.

Be sure to put lots of enthusiasm and energy into your reading so your little guests will be interested.

Also remember to choose a book with lots of pictures to share.

Children love it when a grown-up reads them a good story. And storytelling is a fun experience for both you and your young listeners.

Yes, storytelling is a wonderful activity for your child's birthday, but it's also a very special way to bond with your child anytime.

Our children have fond memories of having stories read to them by mom and dad, and now our grandchildren love to have us read stories to them.

We've discovered an excellent website dedicated to the art of story telling. Take a quick look at The Story Telling Resource Centre you'll be glad you did.

These are just a few 1st birthday party activities to get your own creative juices going. Just be sure to put together games and activities that adults can do right along with their children.

And if there are older children, make sure you have a few things for them too.

You might put together special favor bags or boxes for the older kids - remember not to include anything that might be a hazard for the little ones. This will keep older children busy and having fun.

    Activity Clean Up

Mom, you and dad have a lot to do when it comes to your child's 1st birthday party, so get a family member or friend to help with clean up during and after the party. You can also get help from teens.

Now that you have some fun activities and CD music, your party is really coming together.

    Have FUN
