Clown school

by Jennifer
(Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Canada)

I have a daughter turning 4 in two weeks. and in one day I have come up with ideas for her invitations and party guests.(Her preschool class. 16 kids)

Tell me what you think..

I decided 3 hours would be enough time for the party, and to have it at 2pm to start means no meal.

For invitations, I printed out a small square favor box template on card stock. I printed 2 per page so they end up being small boxes.

I bought large Balloons and wrote on them with the invitation information.(Did not tie them) waited for ink to dry deflated them and placed them in the small boxes with multi coloured conffeti I made out of construction paper.

Wrote on the inside of box lid,
" READ THE BALLOON " and closed the lid.
Those are my invitations.

I am Hiring a local clown who btw is very reasonably priced 75$ CAD. for her 1 hr show.

I will have 3 teenagers (5$ a piece as helpers.) They will be in charge of my 3 stations when the kids arrive.

Dress up, face painting, and craft table.

Dress up: strange wacky loud print mens shirts that I plan on finding at my local thrift shop or neighbours or my husband's closet.

And big men's ties for the thrift store.

Face painting: with 4-5 simple clown face designs pinned up to the wall ( triangle eyebrows, circle cheeks making it easy for the child to choose and the teenager to draw. face paint at local dollar store.

I want to find cheap foam clown noses or make some any ideas?

Craft table: Yellow cone shape party hats (I may end up making my own) that can be decorated with Foam sticker shapes. And pompoms (small container found at the craft section in the Dollar store)

Then comes Cake, then special guest arrives.

Then Clown school obstacle course in back yard, maybe a clown parade.

Open presents and kids go home...

What do you think?

Do you have any other simple ideas for time fillers... please let me know.

I would love to hear them. Keep in mind they are 4-5 year olds.

This party should be fun.

Jen.

Note From Grandpa Mike

Jen:

Great idea!

Your birthday party is going to be a "Big Top" hit.

And be sure to take plenty of pictures and shoot video too. After your party you can get your own free party website page right here where you can share all the details for family and friends to enjoy too.

Your invitations sound very creative. And that means everyone you invite is going to be really excited about your party.

You might want to add a few games like "Lotsa Socks" and "Stuff the Balloons." Both are perfect for a clown theme. Just visit our kid birthday game ideas page for lots of fun game ideas.

Instead of Pin the Tail on the Donkey you can play "Pin the Nose on the Clown."

And get a circus music CD so you can play all those great songs to get everyone in a clown mood.

Have FUN

Thank you so much Grandpa Mike.

I really do appreciate your comments and ideas. I did have the pin the nose on the clown though but not to sure I have the time but things are coming together.

I am just in the process of tweaking the whole idea to lower the budget costs. The dress up idea .. trying to figure some ideas out, but it will end up working out.

But I am pleased you like the ideas and party plans as well as my invites. Handed them out today.. and the mothers and the preschool teacher was very intrigued and very excited to see the neat idea.

Btw, the trick to the balloon invites is baby powder.

- blow up balloon
-write as thick or as much as you want
- let dry
- deflate
cover, rub and cover the balloon again and rub off the excess ink withe the powder and it looks like you had them professionally printed. Easy and inexpensive.

The next thing is tackle the music...
