Need ideas for 9 year old boy birthday party

I am needing some new ideas for my son's 9th birthday party.
We are having it at our house and want to do something outdoors if possible.
We do have a pool but want to stay away from a swimming party, because I don't think the water will be warm enough.
My husband suggested a carnival theme and have stations with different games. I don't know if I can do it myself, and am not sure I can get any high school helpers. Any ideas?
A Note From Grandpa Mike
Jennifer:
An outdoor party for 9 year old boys is a great idea. They have so much energy and being outdoors gives them space to burn off some of their extra excitement.
A Carnival birthday party is a really good idea, and have you thought about asking some of the parents to help set-up and run the booths?
Your carnival booths could include activities like shooting water squirt guns at targets, a Clown Ball Toss
, ring toss, a "fishing" booth where someone that's "hidden" under the booth attaches treats to a clothes pin fishing line.
If your son likes baseball, here's a fun Grand Slam Baseball Game
that's perfect for outdoors.
You can also have a water balloon toss, sack races and relay races.
Get someone to dress up like a clown and hand out balloons and treats.
Other outdoor ideas could include your very own Olympic Games, a Bounce House party, and a Petting Zoo if your child loves animals.
Your 9 year old is going to have a memorable party.
Have FUN
