Treasure Hunt Rhyming Clues?

by Lori
(BC Canada)

Is anyone willing to share their own rhyming clues that you have used in your own treasure hunts?

Or do you have creative ideas for clues that I can use outdoors. For example; items in a park, buildings, parks, school grounds, paths, bridges, roads, lake, river, train tracks, etc?

Thanks so very much :)

Note From Grandpa Mike

Lori:

A treasure hunt is always lots of fun.

I did some research for you and found an interesting site that gives you all kinds of information about how to put together a Treasure Hunt game - AND wording for your rhyming clues!

Take a look at The Ultimate Treasure Hunt

And you'll love Party Pages where you can share your child's birthday party with family and friends.

Have FUN

Here's a few I used for backyard party:

Find something big and round
that bounces on the ground

Find something with a seat
and pedals for your feet

Find something with wheels
stand on it and see how it feels (a skateboard)

Find something with a net
and a hoop too, I bet! (basketball hoop)

Find me standing tall and high
green leaves and a red tie (I tied red ribbon around a tree)

Find the birds of blue and red,
it?s Captain Cole?s parrot head! (this was a party yard sign of a parrot)

A tunnel that is long and blue
see if you can crawl through (I had kids play tunnels outside)

This clue is kinda lame.
But you need it to advance in the game:
If there?s something you need to tame.
(And that something is a flame.)
And to extinguish it is a risky game?
You need something that can?t go aflame.
And something that fire can?t claim.
(water)

Keys, Keys, Everywhere!
Look under and don?t be scared!
Underneath you will find,
A clue that is one of a kind!
(under the top of a piano)

Ryhme Ideas

When I did this for my 10 year old daughter's party, I looked up silly word riddles for kids on the internet and it worked really well - riddles work well because you can edit them sometimes to fit with the yard or area you are using for the hunt.

The kids had tons of fun.

Try these:

Uno, Dos, Tres , You find me in this place. Ein, zwei, Drei, You find me if you try. One, Two, Three, You'll find me where dogs go wee (taped to a fire hydrant on street)

Sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down, sometimes I swallow something round. With all that said, this much is sound. My base stays firmly on the ground. (taped to an adjustable height basketball backboard)
